Sean, I was first published when I was nine (9) years old -- a report I wrote on a class visit to a brick factory. In the intervening 60+ years, I've written for no fewer than 85 publications, been editor of six (three each in the US and the UK), worked at The Voice of America and as a Pentagon Correspondent for Air Force Times -- among other cool jobs.
Oddly, I'm finding it hard to do a great deal of writing these days: I think I waste too much time keeping up with Trump's antics and other current events.
But I am trying to become a more regular Medium contributor, even though I haven't (yet) made a cent there.
It's kind of like you said: Writing into a void. And that's frustrating.
I think I'll go back to pitching magazines that PAY writers!
